EU and ILO launch project on gender equality in the workplaceThe International Labour Office and the European Union launched a new Project ‘Gender Equality in the World of Work‘, which will aim to enable key state bodies and social partners to promote gender equality and women‘s empowerment in the world of work by developing, implementing and monitoring gender-sensitive employment policies and programmes. The project will employ awareness-raising activities, communicate information, and support the development and implementation of locally adapted tools and pilot interventions, so that Ukrainian actors be able to accumulate hands-on experience of gender-sensitive policy development and implementation.
Training of trainers for trade unionsThe EU-ILO ‘Gender Equality in the World of Work’ Project started a series of “training of trainers” seminars on gender mainstreaming in collective bargaining and job evaluation techniques for workers’ representatives in Lyutizh on 5 October 2009. The training workshops “Negotiating Better Working and Living Conditions: Gender Mainstreaming in Collective Bargaining” (5-7 October, 2009) and “From Prohibition of Discrimination to Promoting Equality: Pay Equity” (7-9 October, 2009) aimed to train trainers among trade union leaders and activists to undertake gender sensitive training within trade union structures as well as to address gender equality through collective bargaining agreements.

An international conference “Social advertising: Exchanging of Experience” took place in Kyiv on 15-16 June.The event was organized by the EU-funded project “Women and children’s rights – Communication Component” which aims at implementing an effective multimedia campaign to change the stereotypes in the Ukrainian society and raise awareness of the general public of women and children’s rights in Ukraine.

The Government of Spain shared experience of gender mainstreaming in labour inspection services with the Ukrainian tripartite delegationFrom October 13-15, 2010 a Ukrainian tripartite delegation visited the Spanish Labour and Social Security Inspection to learn about the legal framework and practice of the labour inspection service in Spain for promoting gender equality and non-discrimination at the workplace. The study visit was organized in the framework of the ‘Gender Equality in the World of Work’ project which is funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the ILO.

EU and ILO train women entrepreneurs from LutskOn November 8-10, 2010 in Lutsk the training ‘Improve Your Business’ took place within the framework of the EU-ILO Project ‘Gender Equality in the World of Work’.
